Granada (away)
Tenerife go into the match pretty much at full strength, but hoping to avoid any injuries, because the next game is the Cup Final vs. Barcelona.
Mane gave Granada the lead on 4 minutes, scoring with the head after a corner. (1-0)
Cortes slammed the ball into the net from the edge of the box to equalise on 23 minutes. (1-1)
Cortes then grabbed a 2nd, glancing in a cross at the near post. (1-2)
HALFTIME 1-2
Heber managed to steer a cross from the left into the goal to draw Granada level just after Tenerife had withdrawn some key players to save them for the Cup Final. (2-2)
Copa Del Rey Final
The biggest fixture that Tenerife has had in a long time and I feel it deserves special attention, so I have created a separate post.
Barcelona (away)
Alexis Sanchez gave Barcelona the early lead on 4 minutes, latching on to a Messi through ball before hammering the ball beyond Verdi. (1-0)
Messi curled in a free kick on 39 minutes to double Barca’s lead. (2-0)
Halftime 2-0
Bojan made it 3-0 to Barca on 49 minutes, firing a low shot from outside the box. (3-0)
Alexis Sanchez volleyed a 4th following a cross by Dani Alves. (4-0)
Dede also got in on the scoring act, rising up at the front post to head in a corner. (5-0)
Bojan grabbed another on 77 minutes. (6-0)
We were very lucky not to have conceded far more goals than the 6 we did. Barcelona were unstoppable today and only Hernandez received pass marks for the performance.
This defeat is the biggest loss we have suffered in my 5 years in charge.
Malaga (home)
The final game of the season sees the visit of Malaga.
A swift counter attack from Malaga saw Santi Carzola unmarked at the back post and he found the net with a header. (1-0)
Carzola grabbed a 2nd on 34 minutes with an unstoppable free kick from about 35 yards. (2-0)
Cortes pulled a goal back right on the stroke of halftime. (2-1)
HALFTIME 1-2
Despite pummelling the Malaga goal for almost the entire 2d half, Tenerife just couldn’t find the back of the net.
League
Well the curtain comes down on a fairly successful season for Tenerife. We played very attractive football this season and got a deserved piece of silverware in the form of the Copa del Rey.
The next post will be the traditional look back at the previous season and also a retrospective look back at my 5 years at the club.
