Zaragoza (home)
Green opened the scoring on 11 minutes. He played a delightful 1-2 with Santo and curled the ball past the keeper. (1-0)
Hernandez doubled the lead on 16 minutes, lashing a daisy cutter into the bottom corner. (2-0)
Schieber scored at the back post to pull a goal back following a good move for Zaragoza. (2-1)
Zezinho took advantage of a loose ball in the box to score and equalise for Zaragoza. (2-2)
HALFTIME 2-2
Schieber put Zaragoza into the lead on 57 minutes, taking advantage of poor marking to steal in at the front post and score an easy goal. (2-3)
Baena scored a cracker from outside the box, curling the ball into the top corner. (2-4)
Hernandez’s goal was named the 3rd best Gol de la semana de la Liga.
Deportivo (away)
Stuart Govier opened the scoring for Tenerife at the 2nd attempt. A fantastic cross from Green found Govier unmarked 6 yards out, but his volley smashed off the post and luckily fell back to him and he didnt miss at the 2nd attempt. (0-1)
Green smashed the ball into the top corner at the near post to score and double Tenerife’s lead. (0-2)
HALFTIME 0-2
Govier made a silly challenge in 75 minutes to give away a penalty, but Gama couldn’t beat Verdi in the Tenerife goal.
Green’s goal was named as Gol de la semana de la Liga and Govier was named in Equipo de la semana.
Cordoba (home)
Denis Straqualursi was introduced to the match in the 1st half when Hernandez went off injured, and he grabbed the opening goal on 26 minutes, firing a superb shot that went in off the back post. (1-0)
HALFTIME 1-0
Stuart Govier was sent packing on 67 minutes and just 2 minutes later, Cordoba were back in the match. (1-1)
A foul on Cortes inside the box, gave Perrey the chance to put Tenerife back in front from the penalty spot, which he duly did. (2-1)
Cortes made sure that Tenerife ended up victors in the match when he raced clear and beat the keeper on 90(+3) minutes. (1-3)
Las Palmas (away)
Milanov scored early on to give Las Palmas the lead. (1-0)
Cortes grabbed the equaliser on 16 minutes, latching onto a cross from Zambrano and lashing the ball into the net. (1-1)
HALFTIME 1-1
Drazan was given his marching orders for a silly foul on the edge of the box, giving him a 2nd yellow and leaving Las Palmas with 10 men.
Florian Schoch got his 1st goal for the senior team on 82 minutes, getting on the end of a rebound and tapping into the empty net. (1-2)
Alfaro equalised on 87 minutes, racing clear he jinked and juked and rolled the ball past Verdi. (2-2)
Atl. Madrid (home)
Fer gave Atletico the lead on 42 minutes, with the help of a deflection off Santo. (0-1)
Just how Tenerife failed to score in the first half is a mystery. We managed to create 13 shots on goal and got 8 of them on target.
HALFTIME 0-1
Tenerife equalised staright from kck off, Santo was sent free down the left and his cut inside and smashed the ball into the net. (1-1)
Raul Meireles restore the lead to Atletico on 57 minutes with a powerful shot low into the corner. (1-2)
Tenerife once more equalised just 3 minutes later. Green being sent free by Cortes and duly scoring. (2-2)
Green put Tenerife ahead on 74 minutes, tapping an easy shot into the net following a rebound. (3-2)
Cortes increased the lead on 90 minutes, racing clear down the right before slipping the ball under the keeper. (4-2)
League
Another good month for Tenerife, with just 1 loss and 1 draw from the 5 games and 13 goals scored has kept the pressure on the team above us. A very impressive win against Atletico was particularly pleasing.
With just 8 games to go we are looking to keep up the pressure on Atletico, Sporting and Villarreal and look to take advantage of any slip ups. Perhaps targetting Villarreal is a bit ambitious, but the are only 9 points ahead.
This coming month also see’s the final of the Copa del Rey against Barcelona.
