Athletic Bilbao (away)

Tenerife won a free kick down by the corner flag on 10 minutes, but instead of swinging the ball into the packed box, it was rolled to the edge fro Govier to smash into the top corner. (0-1)

Bilbao immediately pegged Tenerife back with Verdi being credited with an own goal.  The ball cracked off the crossbar and drop onto the prone Verdi where it bounced and went into the goal. (1-1)

HALFTIME 1-1

Llorente put Bilbao ahead on 49 minutes, heading a corner into the net. (2-1)

Sevilla (home)

Sevilla took the lead after 36 minutes when Fazio climbed above the defence to score with a header. (0-1)

HALFTIME 0-1

Paulo equalised for Tenerife with a header from snide the 6 yard box. (1-1)

Cortes and Green continued their good partnership up front, linking up to put Tenerife in front. (2-1)

Racing (home)

Dardo Santo put Tenerife in front after 18 minutes.  Running across the defender, Santo picked up the ball from a Pronk cross and tapped the ball into the net past the badly flatfooted Raul in the Racing goal. (1-0)

Green dribbled the ball down the right before cutting into the box and squaring the ball to Cortes, who tapped in from 6 yards. (2-0)

Cortes then returned the favour for Green to further increase the lead. (3-0)

HALFTIME 3-0

Govier grabbed a goal just after the break, latching onto a cross from Green before slamming the ball high into the net past the keeper. (4-0)

Villarreal (away)

Hernandez put Tenerife ahead on 7 minutes, catching a cross from Camus on  the volley and slamming the ball into the net. (0-1)

HALFTIME 0-1

Tenerife had to withstand some very intense pressure from Villarreal in the 2nd half, but we managed to hold on for the 3 points.

Sporting (home)

Tenerife opened the scoring on 7 minutes when Hendricks rose above the crowd to power in a header from a Santo corner. (1-0)

Trejo equalised for Gijon on 16 minutes, turning his marker on the edge of the box before slamming a shot into the net from 18 yards. (1-1)

Cenderos clattered into Govier in the box and the referee didnt hesitate to award the penalty kick for Tenerife.  Govier stepped up confidently and slammed the ball past the keeper. (2-1)

Gijon had the ball in the net on the stroke of halftime, but the referee ruled it offside.

HALFTIME 2-1

Govier launched a ball over the top and a fantastic burst of pace from Cortes made sure he beat the keeper to the ball.  He managed to take a touch past the keeper before slamming the ball into the net. (3-1)

Pied grabbed a goal back on 90(+2) minutes, but Tenerife were able to hold on for the win. (3-2)

Hendricks and Govier were named in the Equipo de la semana.


League

league

Another month and Tenerife are still flying high.  With just 3 games remaining it is looking increasingly likely that we will get some European action next season.

Considering that it was suggested that we would be lucky to avoid to relegation this season, it has been a very pleasing campaign.

Our remaining league fixtures are against Granada, Barcelona and Malaga.  We also have the Copa del Rey final to look forwards to.
